When thinking about buying a plastic dog house instead of a wooden one there are several things that you should consider. The first thing to keep in mind is that you need to find a plastic dog house that is the correct size for your dog. Dog owners sometimes rush into buying a doghouse and they buy one that is either too large or too small for their animal.

Location is an important thing to keep in mind as well. You must look at the environment that you are in and decide if a plastic house would be suitable for the weather conditions or would you need to have a wooden house instead. Also, will the house itself be placed indoors or outdoors? There are various makes and models of houses, some of which are suitable for the outdoors while there are others that are best kept inside.

If you have a large dog then you might want to think ahead to cleaning the dog house. Plastic dog houses are the easiest to clean as they are easy to take apart and they can be wiped or sprayed down. Wooden houses, once they are together it are a great task to take them apart and you would not do so for a simple cleaning. In addition to this, they cannot be sprayed down unless the wood is pressure treated, but we all know that you should never use this type of wood for your dog house.

If you are living in a windy area that experiences some extreme cold conditions than you should stay away from a plastic house. The plastic itself, while insulated does not keep your dog as warm in these conditions as a wooden house would. Plastic houses also have more holes than wooden houses and therefore wind blows through the house.
